## Transcript

This is TechCrunch.
Every Sunday, we cover the week's tech news on This Week in Tech.
Hi, this is Leo Laporte inviting you to join us for this Sunday's episode with Ian Thompson, Abrar Alhidi, and Patrick Beja.
We talk about Outlook crashing in space, OpenAI spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a podcast, and the return, or maybe not, of Zombo.com.
Join us every week for This Week in Tech.
You'll find it at twit.tv and wherever you get your podcasts.
This is not the future we were promised.
Like, how about that for a tagline for the show?
From the BBC, this is The Interface, the show that explores how tech is rewiring your week and your world.
This isn't about quarterly earnings or about tech reviews.
It's about what technology is actually doing to your work and your politics, your everyday life.
And all the bizarre ways people are using the internet.
Listen on BBC.com or wherever you get your podcasts.
X is rolling out automatic translation and photo editing, powered by none other than Grok.
I'm Imran Shaikh, and your Thursday Daily Crunch starts right now.
On Monday, Google quietly released an offline first dictation app called Google AI Edge Eloquent on iOS to take on the likes of WhisperFlow, SuperWhisper, Willow, and others.
You see, the app is free to download, and once it's GEMMA-based automatic speech recognition, our models are downloaded, you can start dictating on your phone.
In the app, you can see the live transcription, and when you hit pause, the app automatically filters out filler words like um and ah and polishes the text.
You can also turn off the cloud mode to use local-only processing.
When cloud mode is on, the app uses cloud-based Gemini models for text cleanup.
The Google AI Edge Eloquent can import certain keywords, names, and jargon from your Gmail account, if desired.
Plus, you can add your own, custom words to the list.
The app displays the history of the transcription session and lets you search through all of them as well.
It can show you words dictated in the last session, your words per minute speed, and the total number of words spoken.
While the app is currently only available on iOS, the App Store description references an Android version as well.
But not so fast, because the company has updated the App Store listing and removed references to the Android app.
But it also added that the iOS keyboard is coming soon.
Intel will join SpaceX and Tesla in an effort to build a new U.S.
semiconductor factory in Texas, although the scope of its contributions are unclear.
You see, Elon Musk announced in March a team-up between the two tech companies he leads to develop chips for AI compute, satellites, and SpaceX's Mooded space data center and to support the possibility of autonomous Tesla vehicles and robots.
However, building a chip fab is one of the most difficult and expensive corporate infrastructure projects, typically requiring years of time and more than $20 billion to create a facility with a huge cleanroom for thousands of ultra-precise machines to carve silicon.
It wasn't obvious how SpaceX and Tesla, two companies with no experience in the sector, could team up to execute the project efficiently.
Now, though, we have a better idea.
Intel's gonna do it for them.
The company has been hunting for large anchor customers to support its foundry business, and now it has two.
Still, if investors...
If investors thought that TerraFab would be a greenfield approach based on SpaceX's and Tesla's unique approach to engineering, that may not play out once the leading U.S.
silicon producer, Intel, has seen rivals NVIDIA and AMD take the lead in developing advanced processors and adopt the fabless business model where chip designers outsource the manufacturing of their semiconductors.
Intel declined to comment on the partnership, while SpaceX didn't respond to TechCrunch's query.
Social media platform X is now rolling out a new feature that automatically translates posts.
The company is also launching a new photo editor with the ability to modify images through natural language posts.
Both features, of course, are powered by XAI's Grok models.
The company is pushing to make the in-app experience better for users with these updates.
Late Tuesday, X's head of product, Nikita Beer, announced that automatic translation is rolling out worldwide.
You can tap on the gear icon on a translated post and toggle off.
Automatic translation for that particular language.
Other social networks have also tried this playbook to make posts reach a larger global audience.
Reddit has been experimenting with machine translation for the last few years.
The social platform is also rolling out a new image editor to its iOS app.
The update includes features like drawing and text tools.
Plus, there is a blur tool that lets you hide certain details, such as faces or sensitive information, such as credit card or social security numbers, from an image.
Adding to that, it's also enabling users to ask Grok to edit an image with a natural language prompt.
For instance, you can ask it, display this photo as a painting in a museum, and Grok will generate that picture for you.
The company said that it plans to bring these updates to the Android app soon.
Multiple companies, such as Google and Adobe, have introduced AI-powered features that let users describe image edits.
And folks, that's your Daily Crunch.
Today's stories were reported by Ivan Mehta, Tim Fernholtz, and more awesome TechCrunch journalists.
